Iran helping build Tajik infrastructure

The Islamic Republic of Iran is building two major hydropower plants, a tunnel as well as roads and railroads in Tajikistan.
The pace of the construction of the Sangtuda hydropower plant on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan will speed up and the station is expected to be finished in the first half of 2009.
After that, Iran is supposed to participate in construction of another power plant with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts on the Vakhsh River.
The construction of two 500-kilovolt power transmission lines from Tajikistan via Afghanistan to Iran and Pakistan will be accelerated as well.
The construction of the Chormaqzak tunnel in the Khatlon province as well as roads and railways Kolkhozobod-Panji Poyon-Kunduz-Mazar-i Sharif-Herat-Mashad will start before the end of this year.
The construction of the Chormaqzak tunnel that will stretch 4.2 kilometers will be fully funded by Iran.
The tunnel is scheduled to be finished in 30 months. Besides, the construction of a large Tajik-Iranian business center will start this year as well.
Tehran, Dushanbe review joint projects

Iran's energy minister and his Tajik counterpart confer on the progress achieved in joint projects in the country's capital, Dushanbe.
At the meeting, Parviz Fattah and Tajik Minister of Energy and Industry Sherali Gulov discussed the Sangtudeh II power plant, being constructed by Iran on the Vaksh River in southwestern Tajikistan.
The 5-km Anzab tunnel connecting Dushanbe to Khujand in northern Tajikistan and other cities, as well as a new tunnel project were also on the agenda of today's talks.
The Iranian energy minister is expected to meet President Emomali Rahmonov as well as Tajik ministers of agriculture and foreign affairs.
A memorandum of understanding is due to be signed between the two sides at the end of their negotiations.
Fattah and his entourage arrived in Dushanbe on Monday.

installation of tunnel, time of its inauguration and operation
is not clear.
He mentioned reporters: Processes of tunnel excavation are
finished but according to the existing sensitivity about tunnel
operation, until the end of establishment of necessary
installation such as: extinguishing the fire system tunnel will
not be in operation.
