Safety and Environmental issues are important aspects in relation to ground use and development, and also in terms of energy consumption. Underground spaces play an important role in the development of national infrastructures and other sectors such as power plants, urban development, warehousing, energy and fuel networks, transportation networks, mining exploration and excavation tunnels, etc. All these underground spaces require safety, and environmental considerations, in addition to technical and economical justification.

In this regard one of today's needs of developing countries is to profit from the latest technologies in the construction of tunnels and underground spaces. To map the trajectory of developments in new and innovative technologies, organizing of conferences plays an important role.
