The launching seminar of the Kazakhstan Tunnelling Association (KTA) took place in Astana on May the 15th. The seminar has been chaired by Baibol UTEPBAYEV, President of KTA. More than 80 persons representing companies and public services of Kazakhstan took part in the seminar.ITA has been invited to participate and was represented by its General Secretary, Claude Berenguier.The formal adhesion of Kazakhstan inside ITA through KTA will be done during the 34th ITA General Assembly in Agra. TUCSS 2 day short course TUCSS jointly with the Land Transport Academy (LTA) Academy organised a two-day short course on “Planning and Design of Tunnels” on 5th and 6th March 2008 at the Hotel Swissotel Merchant Court. Fifteen industry eminent experts have presented their lectures on various topics including planning, investigations, designs, risk assessment and management and regulatory requirements. It was well attended by slightly more than 100 participants from contractors, consultants, developers and authorities.

According to the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Angel Moratinos, the project will be presented to the European Union October the 13th. On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the First Regional and 10th Iranian Conference on Tunneling and Underground Spaces-2009 – Tunnels & Underground Spaces for Transportation and Urban Development, I take great pleasure in extending a cordial invitation to individuals, Regulatory Bodies, Government Departments, Public undertakings, Tunnel Building Contractors and Consultants, Equipment Manufacturers, Technical Research Institutes, Universities and Funding Agencies, who are actively involved in the tunnel and other underground construction, to participate in the various events in conjunction with the Conference from 2009 at Tehran, Iran.
All the agencies involved in tunnel construction including planners, designers, construction firms, consultants and equipment manufacturers are also cordially invited to participate in the exhibition being organized in conjunction with the Conference at Tehran, Iran. In view of the large scale tunneling works to be undertaken for Metro rail, Roads and the development of Water Resources/ Hydropower Projects in the near future and other underground structures being planned in this country, there is vast scope for agencies within as well as outside the country, to demonstrate their capability either in providing services or equipment by taking part in the exhibition.
